Jan Rabiej was born in 1963 in Zabrze.


In the years 1983 - 1988 he was studying at the Faculty of Architecture of the Silesian University of Technology and, as an unenrolled student, at the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice. In 1994 he received the title of Doctor of Technical Sciences at the Faculty of Architecture of the Silesian University of Technology. The title of Habilitated Doctor Jan Rabiej obtained in 2006 at the Faculty of Architecture of the Cracow University of Technology. Jan Rabiej is currently employed as an assistant professor at the Silesian University of Technology. In 2012 he became the Vice Dean at the Faculty of Architecture, responsible for scientific matters. In 2013 he became the Head of the Department of Theory, Design and History of Architecture.

 

Professional interests of Jan Rabiej are based on seeing architecture as a cultural phenomenon that combines technics with fine arts. The subject of his theoretical work is directly related to his design and creative work. Jan Rabiej is an author of about 40 independent scientific publications. He is the main designer of 12 constructed buildings (sacral facilities, housing units, offices, factories) and 27 interiors. He is also an author of dozens of stained-glass designs and paintings.

 

 

Aleksandra Tomkiewicz (Principal Investigator) graduated from the Faculty of Architecture of the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice (2004, awarded diploma). She works in the Department of Theory, Design and History of Architecture as a research assistant, and in a family architectural firm.

 

Aleksandra Tomkiewicz's research interests include the history of transformations of the spatial structure of modern cities. A special place in her research is reserved for industrial cities and the processes of their transformation in the era of strong competition between cities.

 

Aleksandra Tomkiewicz's professional experience includes participating in spatial planning and architectural projects as a team member and as a main designer. She took part in the development of spatial planning documents on the level of the community / city, and in the development of ideas for the transformation of the degraded areas, as well as in architectural projects of commercial service facilities, healthcare facilities, production plants and housing.
